The Ultimate Guide to Your Colorado Wedding: Insights from a Littleton Photographer, CO born & raised

Planning a wedding in the Centennial State is an adventure unlike any other. From the jagged horizons of the Continental Divide to the sun-drenched prairies of the Front Range, Colorado offers a diversity of backdrops that can accommodate any vision—from "mountain chic" to "modern industrial."

As a wedding photographer based in Littleton, CO, I have spent years navigating these landscapes, chasing light, and documenting the most important days of my clients' lives. Whether you are a local resident or planning a destination wedding in our beautiful state, this guide is designed to help you navigate the process and showcase why this region is the premier place to say "I do."

Your Local Expert: Why a Littleton?

Littleton is more than just a suburb of Denver; it is a gateway. Situated perfectly between the metropolitan energy of the city and the rising peaks of the foothills, being based here allows me to serve a wide radius of stunning locations.

When you hire a photographer who lives and breathes Colorado, you aren't just paying for someone to click a shutter. You are hiring a location scout, a weather forecaster, and a mountain guide.

Serving the Best of Colorado:

  • Littleton: The heart of my business, featuring gems like the Chatfield Farms and historic downtown.
  • Silverthorne & Dillon: The go-to for high-altitude romance and lakeside views.
  • Evergreen & Conifer: For those who want the scent of pine and the sight of elk on their wedding day.
  • Bailey: The "undiscovered" mountain escape for serene, rustic celebrations.
  • Denver: For the modern couple who loves rooftop skylines and historic hotels.
  • Beyond: Whichever CO city you choose you can't go wrong here

A Deeper Look at My Photography Philosophy

Every photographer has a "why." Understanding mine will help you decide if we are the right match for your wedding day.

1. The Power of Storytelling

I believe that a wedding gallery should read like a novel. While I love an intimate ceremony that keeps things short & sweet, I also love a full-day wedding. It should have a beginning (the nervous anticipation of getting ready), a middle (the emotional tier of the ceremony), and an end (the unbridled joy - and sometimes craziness- of the reception). I aim to capture these moments and everything in between by using a blend of portraits prompts and documentary storytelling. We will get all the classic photos grandma could want, while also capturing the tear running down a groom's cheek, the secret handshake between sisters, and the roar of laughter at the head table.

2. The Native Advantage: Lighting and Landscapes

Colorado’s light is unique. Because of our elevation, the sun is more intense, and the "Golden Hour" can be shorter than at sea level. As someone born & raised in Colorado, I have mastered the art of shooting in high-contrast environments. Whether it’s the bright mid-day sun reflecting off the snow in Silverthorne or the moody shadows of the Evergreen forests, I know how to make the light work for you.

3. Creating a Stress-Free Environment

I often tell my couples that my job is 50% photography and 50% "vibe management." If you are stressed, it shows in the photos. I pride myself on a relaxed, natural approach that brings out real reactions for both of you. I’ll also help you fix your veil, tell a joke to loosen up the groomsmen, and keep the energy light so that your true personalities can shine through.

Venue Spotlight: Favorite wedding spots in My Service Areas

To help you with your planning, here are some of my favorite areas to photograph, along with the unique "vibe" they offer:

The Littleton & South Metro Area

  • The Vibe: Elegant, accessible, and garden-focused.
  • Why I Love It: Venues here often offer a mix of manicured gardens and historic architecture. It’s perfect for couples who want a sophisticated outdoor wedding without making guests drive deep into the canyons.
  • Chatfield Farms wedding venue, Hudson Gardens wedding, Manor House Littleton.

Silverthorne & Dillon: The Alpine Dream

  • The Vibe: Grand, breathtaking, and adventurous.
  • Why I Love It: There is nothing like the blue of Lake Dillon. Taking portraits at Sapphire Point or along the Blue River in Silverthorne provides a scale of beauty that is hard to match anywhere else in the country.
  • Dillon Reservoir, Sapphire Point

Evergreen & Conifer: The Foothill Escape

  • The Vibe: Moody, forested, and intimate.
  • Why I Love It: These areas offer a "true mountain" feel. Being just 30–45 minutes from Denver makes an easy commute for out-of-town guests. The light filtering through the aspen trees in the fall is a photographer’s dream.
  • Evergreen Lake House, The Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park, The Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park

Bailey: For the Rustic Souls

  • The Vibe: Remote, serene, and intimate.
  • Why I Love It: Bailey is perfect for couples who want to escape the "wedding factory" feel. It’s about wide-open ranches and total privacy.
  • Deer Creek Mountain Resort & Camp, Mountain View Ranch by Wedgewood Weddings

Seasonal Guide for Your Colorado Wedding Photos

When should you get married? In Colorado, every season offers something spectacular.

Seasons
.01

The "Vibrant and Golden"
The Vibe: Energetic & sun-drenched,
The Experience: This is the season of the True Golden Hour. Summer in Colorado means long, lingering twilights. We get to play with "lens flare" and warm, honey-colored light that makes every photo feel like a nostalgic memory. In the high alpine areas of Silverthorne, the wildflowers create a kaleidoscope of color that adds a natural "fine art" feel to your gallery.
Breathable fabrics & blotting papers are key.

Summer

.02

The "Amber and Earthy"
The Vibe: Nostalgic, warm, and textured.
The Experience: There is a reason fall is the most popular time for a Colorado wedding photographer. The state literally turns gold. The yellow aspens in Evergreen and Bailey provide a warm, monochromatic backdrop that is incredibly flattering. The light becomes "softer" and more directional, allowing for dramatic silhouettes and rich, warm shadows.

Earth tones are your best friend.

Fall

.03

The Ethereal Winter Wonderland
The Vibe: Peaceful and undeniably romantic.
The Experience: The snow acts as a massive natural reflector, bouncing soft light back onto your faces and creating flawless, "bright and airy" skin tones. When we head into the mountains near Dillon, Bailey, or Evergreen, the contrast of the bright snow against the deep greens of the evergreens is breathtaking.
Red accents pop especially well in winter.

Winter

.04

The Bright & Colorful Dreamland
The Vibe: Lush and vibrant
The Experience: In the lower elevations like Littleton and Denver, we see the first pops of green and blooming crabapple trees. In the mountains, think low-hanging clouds, mist rolling through the pines in Conifer, and rushing, snow-melt rivers.
Embracing florals is perfect for the fall.

Spring

After years of shooting in the Rockies, here are my top tips for couples:

  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: If you are coming from out of state to get married in Dillon or Silverthorne, altitude sickness is real! Drink plenty of water so you look and absolutely feel your best.
  2. The "Backup" Plan: Colorado weather can change in five minutes. Always choose a venue that has a beautiful indoor backup option, or be prepared to embrace the rain! After all, rainy photos can be some of the most romantic.
  3. Footwear Matters: If you want those epic mountain-top shots in Evergreen or Bailey, bring a pair of "hiking" shoes or flats. We can always swap into your heels once we get to the perfect spot.
  4. Don't skip the Golden Hour: Even if it means stepping away from the party for 15 minutes, the light just before sunset is when we will capture your most iconic portraits.
